Facebook phishing campaign
If you use Facebook, beware of a phishing campaign now attempting to get your ID and Password.
It’s a classic scheme, they ask to be your “friend” but the link they provide takes you to a spoofed FaceBook log-in screen. The criminals use accounts they have already compromised to post the phishing links. As they compromise more accounts they are able to launch more campaigns because each account offers them fresh new friends to attack.
The Spyware Guide blog captured a picture which shows FireFox blocking the bogus link. They also provide one of the domains to watch out for, like : e77c98037(dot)com. If you see links that end in .info or .net you’ll know they are not Facebook accounts.
Remember, if you don’t know them, or at least aren’t familiar with the name, they’re probably not your friend.
MySpace War on Spam
Brian Bergstein, FORBES, reports:
An arbitrator has ruled that Scott Richter and his Web marketing company, Media Breakaway LLC of Westminster, Colorado, must pay MySpace USD 4.8 million in damages and USD 1.2 million in attorney’s fees for barraging MySpace members with unsolicited advertisements. Media Breakaway and its employees were also banned from the site.
In a news interview for the Associated Press, Hemanshu Nigam, MySpace’s chief security officer, said “MySpace has essentially declared a war on spam and phishing on our site,”
We say BRAVO… maybe FaceBook needs to do the same, or get together with MySpace for some class action! Go get’em tigers!

EPPICard holders beware
The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has received reports of phishing attacks targeting users of EPPICards. The EPPICard is similar to a debit card, and is issued by a state agency for the purpose of receiving child-support payments.
BEWARE of any email asking you to take a survey, or indicating a problem with your account. Phishers can take over your account and receive your payments — or, use those accounts in pass-along phishing attacks.
This is another good reason for a SpamCop account — SpamCop identifies, traps and reports these emails to the authorities. If you don’t have SpamCop, report these phishing attempts to your EPPIcard issuer.

Hacked by China… again
These reports are happening more and more often these days, and although kept pretty quiet by the main stream media it’s increasingly disturbing. Last week another item came through the UGN news net, this time Hackers believed to be operating from China breaking into computers in Congress.
LA Times says:
Federal authorities have been increasingly concerned in recent years about the Chinese government’s aggressive deployment of scientists, engineers, foreign businessmen, students and others to sweep up U.S. technology and information.
The Chinese government had no immediate comment on the allegations.
Procter & Gamble against phishing?
You bet! The tooth-paste, and Pampers people spent $733,000 in the first quarter to lobby on trade, taxes and other issues. The good news is their lobby agenda also included data security, identity theft legislation, and proposals to crack down on spyware and phishing scams.
